My name is Tom, I'm a PhD student and I tutor a range of subjects including GCSE/A Level: English Language and Literature, Film Studies, History and Geography.

This year's contingent of students all met their target grades - with many receiving 8 and 9s in their GCSEs and A* and As at A Level.

I bring extensive academic expertise and detailed knowledge of the curriculum and mark schemes to all my lessons.

I previously taught English as Second Language to foreign teenagers studying in Newcastle and before this I spent several years teaching English in Bologna, Italy.

I live in North Shields. I have Newcastle University's Teaching in Higher Education qualification, an MA in Modern History from Durham University, a First Class Bachelor's degree from the University of Warwick, a TEFL certificate and an enhanced DBS check.

I also offer online services (Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts).

Tutoring Experience

I lead a seminar at Newcastle University every week during term time and I have been tutoring many GCSE and A-Level students (both individuals and groups) in the past few years.

I have worked with several home-schooled students in the UK, IGCSE candidates abroad and schools on after-school tutoring programmes.

In the past, I worked in Bologna, Italy as an English teacher and during this time I taught adults and children of all ages and levels. I taught at many multinational corporations as well as giving group and individual classes at my language institute. I especially enjoyed going into schools (primary, middle and high), meeting the children there and providing a fun but academically challenging course.

Tutoring Approach

I offer online services (Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts) especially during the current moment. I usually use Google Docs with students to create a space where we can both take notes, plan, answer questions and write essays together. These documents are organised by subject matter and are full of the student's own writing, essay examples, plans, diagrams, pictures and extracts etc. to aid learning and recall.
