This is how 2 referees rated Tom:
I have previously completed a BA English Literature degree at The University of Sussex as well as a PGCE with Brighton University.
I have a passion for English which is reflected in my enthusiasm towards teaching. I am an extremely reliable and organised professional who enjoys helping others achieve their academic goals.
Outside of the classroom I strive to keep fit, spending the majority of my time playing sport.
I am an English teacher in Further Education who teaches AQA 9-1 GCSE English and Edexcel Functional Skills English to 16-19 learners and adults.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a Learning Support Assistant learning indispensable knowledge about cognitive differences which can have a direct impact on learning. The wide range of teaching strategies I have learnt to accommodate these different needs has made me an effective and understanding teacher.
I can offer long-term tutoring which may be 1-2 hours per week, or more intensive teaching which would be better suited to preparing you for exams.
I have a professional, enthusiastic and friendly teaching approach which is learner centred and driven by frequent assessment to ensure we are meeting your individual areas for development. I constantly strive to include creativity in planning and go the extra mile to source or design materials which make learning interesting and focused.
Learning will be driven by an informal questioning approach where your attainment of knowledge will be frequently assessed to ensure you are meeting your goals. Individual learning targets and additional resources will be given to my students to maximise their development during sessions and outside of sessions.
Learning will be tailored to the exam you are working towards, whether it is GCSE English or Functional Skills English.
