Chesterfield Tutor

I am a twenty-year-old undergraduate student studying English Language & Literature at the University of Oxford, with A-levels in English Literature (A*), History (A) and Mathematics (B), and with an AS-level in Biology (A). I was raised in Chesterfield and attended my local school, Brookfield Community School. I come from a family of teachers and have grown up appreciating the value of learning, as well as a love of books and literature, and want to inspire this enthusiasm in others. I am down to earth and friendly, and enjoy cooking, watching films and going for walks in the Peak District.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience working to help and motivate younger students, gained while helping out with younger years as a pupil at my school's sixth form. Furthermore, while it does not relate directly to teaching I worked part-time at Chatsworth Farm Shop during my A-level studies, which helped me to develop my organisational and interpersonal skills

Tutoring Approach

I am passionate about my subject and about literature and want to communicate this enthusiasm in students. English is such a broad subject that everyone can find something to enjoy in it, and enjoyment and success often go hand in hand. However, whilst I am idealistic, I am also someone who has (relatively!) recently been through the education system myself, and can therefore understand and empathise with the pressures and difficulties students may face. This also means that I have a familiarity with the current the materials students will be working with, as well as a working knowledge of the curriculum and the skills and techniques that can help students to succeed. I can help with all aspects of punctuation, grammar, spelling strategies, reading comprehension, structuring essays, referencing and exam technique. I will teach these vital skills in a fun and interesting way which is tailored to the specific needs of the learner, balancing a passionate and a pragmatic approach to teaching, which I believe will help students perform to the best of their ability
