I have a degree in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge (2:1+) and a further Business Management qualification from the Cambridge Judge Business School (2:1+). I'm currently working as an opera singer - I have a Masters in Opera from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama - but keep up my tutoring as I find it both fun and engaging.
Having just finished my time at University, I have a good understanding of the English school examination system, and the university application process, meaning that I am in a good position to help with the stresses that these can cause! I have always tried to keep myself involved in a wide variety of activities – having been a Choral Scholar at St John’s College, and the Captain of the football club – and so I understand the importance of using study time efficiently.
I taught a number of students aged 9 - 17 in a variety of subjects during my time working at Christchurch Grammar School, in a classroom environment and one-on-one. I have also worked with students as a tutor during my time at school, and while at university, working with local school children at GCSE and A-level stages. Finally, I have experience working as a sports coach and music teacher, having worked as a tennis coach for children aged 5 - 18, and a singing and piano teacher for children aged 8-18.
I believe that all subjects interrelate with one another, and that thinking of them in this way is the most interesting way to go about learning them - considering the consequences a lesson learned in one subject for a lesson previously learned in another. However, I also understand the importance of doing well in exams, and so I place much emphasis on exam technique. I would be willing to work with students on their University applications, personal statements, and interview techniques should they require it.
