Tochs

Private Online Psychology Tutor

I am a resourceful psychology tutor with over 5 years broad experience working with a diverse student population. I hold a PhD in Psychology at the University of Leicester. Prior to that, I have completed an MSc degree in Forensic Psychology also at Leicester. What I find most inspiring as a teacher is when I look into the eye of a student communicating that “oh yea, got it” moment. It is one of those conversations I have been lucky enough to experience over and over again in the course of my teaching, alongside my passion for the subject.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience supporting students in the following areas:

• Statistical data analysis and interpretation using R, SPSS, JASP

• Analysis and interpretation of Bayesian ANOVA, T-TESTS, Correlations, etc..

• Qualitative data analysis in NVivo (using Thematic Analysis and Interpretative Phenomenological

Analysis approach)

• A level Psychology (AQA/EdExcel)

• Guidance with planning and writing Essays, Dissertation and Thesis

• Exam preparation (including writing model answers to exam questions), choice of appropriate statistics for data analysis, reviewing essays/dissertations and offering feedback.

I teach Psychology at three tiers (A Levels-AS/A2, undergraduate and postgraduate). My teaching experience spans across different domains of psychology to include Cognitive Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, Individual Differences, Research Methods and Statistics, Psychological Testing/Test Construction. I am also able to support students with programming experiments using custom-built software in Matlab and Eyetracking (Eyelink-1000), data analysis in R, qualitative data analysis using NVivo.

Tutoring Approach

I have a strong passion for psychology and I let that show in the classroom through the charismatic presentation of course material. I communicate ideas clearly, concisely and warmly over the phone, in writing and face to face in a sympathetic yet pragmatic manner to foster students learning and encourage open and honest responses.

I am extremely lucky to have had excellent interested teachers throughout my education. Importantly, enthusiasm for the subject and strong critical skills are key characteristics that influenced me most and which I work hardest to replicate and instil in my students. I exhibit these characteristics by showing sincere interest in my students’ personal development, understanding their goals, strengths and weaknesses, whilst upholding high academic standards. I try to know more about my students, especially their interests and career dreams and try to incorporate all these into my lecture and discussion, primarily through examples.

Overall, I believe I am a patient, demanding and engaging tutor. I love teaching and working with a range of different students has helped me to gain insights into how students work and I am eager to maintain an open, honest, and supportive learning environment, helping both brilliant and less able to achieve their full potentials.
