My name is Tobias. I recently completed my BA in Economics at Durham University, awarded a First Class degree and am now finishing my Masters in Management (MSc) at the Uni. I have had a long-standing tuition career both whilst at my previous school (Tonbridge) and whilst at Durham. My A Level background (Economics, Physics, Maths & Geography) and University education mean I can draw upon a great deal of information to inform my tuition experience.
I have tutored hundreds at A Level and above & primarily focus on online tuition. Although getting students the very top grades is the main focus, I also go above & beyond the syllabus to make sure they understand the subject in greater depth. Combined with an extensive range of notes & diagrams, I am able to offer a wide variety of tuition services in Economics.
Moreover, as I spent countless hours, days, weeks & months preparing for Oxford interviews, I would be able to pass on skills I have learnt to help any tutees in applying their knowledge & understanding to real-world events - something examiners & universities are increasingly placing importance on. I would also be happy to, if so desired, conduct mock interviews with tutees to help them in future pursuits: I found experience to be the greatest help in the lead up to interviews, something which no book, advice or skills can prepare you for.
I have been a tutor on First Tutors for 5+ years now & have received fantastic feedback from all my tutees.
At Tonbridge, I regularly ran class revision sessions & helped tutor boys at school, out of school time & during the holidays. Having only recently (well, 2013!) taken GCSEs & A Levels, I have first-hand experience of the exam process, the importance of revision &, of course, reading the question; key skills & tips which I would readily pass on to any tutees! Whilst outside tutoring is new to me, I have experience of tutoring in an 'out of school' environment & will use that in my tutoring sessions to make sure they are as fun & intellectually stimulating as possible.
Tonbridge have even invited me twice (2017 and 2018) to their revision week held in the South-West to tutor the boys in economics; a fantastic experience!
Having been tutored myself for a few years, I know what it feels like - the process often starts off intimidating & only gradually eases in the weeks after. My approach to tutoring someone is always honest & fair &, so long as the tutee is enthusiastic about the subject, then humour & a lot more besides is a key part of the tuition sessions. I, of course, adapt it to whoever it is I am tutoring.
I also think being available to help as much as possible is key, so would encourage tutees to e-mail, Skype, phone or contact me if they are stuck on some last-minute issues or want some advice on anything to do with the subject or the exam system as a whole.
