Tim is a qualified musician having achieved ABRSM grade 8 in both Piano and Trumpet, and as a graduate of the University of Surrey, with an MMus in Music Composition and a BMus in Creative Music Technology.
A composer and arranger of over 10 years experience, Tim's main interests lie in music for media, having made it a personal focus to study deeper into video game and film music inside and out of education. In his first year at university he was invited to join a group of musicians as a co-arranger to create a highly ambitious fan soundtrack; Twilight Symphony which boasted 3 1/2 hours of arranged music from the video game ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’. The album featured a full Hollywood choir which was recorded at Pianella Studios alongside vocal contractor and conductor Tim Davis (Happy Feet, Glee, American Idol) and sound engineer and remixer John Kurlander (The Aviator, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hurt Locker). Additionally, a number of distinguished instrumental soloists were recorded to supplement the samples, and the album itself was showcased in the final issue of Nintendo Power. Tim’s passion for video games and music, and his contribution to the Twilight Symphony album led to opportunities to work with other leading industry professionals on the Video Games Live and Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses concert tours and albums. Tim has also won a number of awards for his efforts in music including the AHRC Scholarship award to study MMus Music Composition and the Joyce Dixey Composition Competition 2013 (Surrey University).
As a performer, Tim has been a part of many university bands and orchestras, and toured with the Camberley Youth Wind Orchestra on multiple occasions to perform both internationally and nationally. He currently performs as first trumpet in the Pelly Orchestra.
Tim is able to provide helpful advice within other areas of music on top of instrumental lessons. This includes composition and arrangement techniques, orchestrating, professional music preparation (using computer based programs to create scores), computer based music skills and much more. Additionally, he is able to provide accompaniment for students looking to enter for grades and perform to audiences.
Whether students are looking to learn purely for enjoyment or to work towards graded exams, Tim aims to customize his approach to teaching dependent on a students requirements, but ultimately motivating and inspiring them to get the most out of their lessons and achieve their goals.
