Hi, my name is Tim, I am an experienced and passionate tutor, with a proven track record of successful students. I am a graduate from Loughborough University, with a degree in Economics, also with an A in A-level maths. I have travelled and worked in New Zealand and France, both posts were within the education sector.
I am a relaxed, considerate and easy going kind of individual, who will always listen to any concerns students may have.
I have spent a year and a half working in education, while completing my degree. I handled full classrooms (in French as well as English!), as well as many one on one sessions, where I was able to help increase not only the ability of the student but also their confidence, in a wide range of subjects and levels.
I believe that students learn their best in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, which is what I endeavour to cultivate. I aim to be as supportive as possible, so that students feel like it is a two way process, rather than a teacher lecturing a pupil.
Due to working with a wide variety of students with differing abilities, I have found that it is important to communicate in a manner that the student will respond to, what works for one student may not work for another. This forms the basis of my teaching approach.
I believe that my personality lends itself to one on one tuition, I am able to relate to the GCSE students, perhaps in a way other tutors cannot. I have had many satisfied parents comment that I am the first tutor who has been able to get through to their child.
I endeavour to create a fun, relaxed environment, as I know that is where students are most receptive. I centre my work around what the student is doing in class, keeping them up to speed with that, this helps their confidence which is a huge factor with many. I also do a lot of work on exam technique, this is missing from a LOT of maths lessons in schools.
