I am a reliable and friendly teacher with a track record of success in private tuition and also mainstream education.
I have taught English for many years, helping students achieve excellent results, regularly significantly above their predicted grades, in A-level English Language and English Literature, GCSE English and entrance exams. I am currently a subject leader in an Outstanding college where I teach GCSE and A-level English. My results are excellent and I consistently help students achieve significantly above their target grade. I also teach English as a language and have experience assisting students in their spoken and written communication.
I have been working full time as a teacher for ten years now, and have been involved in private tuition for almost as long. I also work for exam boards, assessing end of year GCSE and A-level exams. This gives me valuable insight into what students need to include in order to achieve their potential.
I am wholly committed to the achievement of my students and passionate about the power education has to create opportunities and change lives. I have offered one-to-one tuition and seen the incredible impact it can have. For a variety of reasons, classroom time is no longer enough for many students to reach their potential; changes in qualifications present great challenges, classes may be disruptive, group teachers may be unable to provide the required attention to all students or there may simply be more practise needed in certain areas. Private tuition can solve all these issues and many more. Through the rapport I generate with students, my creativity and subject knowledge I can help tutees achieve their goals.
I am patient, clear and communicate well with students. I see confidence as an imperative ingredient to success and work hard to instil a sense of self-belief. I use a range of assessment techniques to do this whilst also giving a realistic picture of progress so far. I also see it as essential that students are engaged, I keep a record of my tutees' interests and use these to plan effective sessions.
