Personal Description:

I am 24 and a University of Aberdeen graduate, having graduated in July 2015 with a 2:1 Joint Master of Arts in International Relations and History I am also waiting to graduate from the University of Aberdeen in November, holding a Commendation in Energy and Environmental Law LLM Law Masters.

While studying the LLM at Aberdeen University I was accepted onto the BP Student Tutoring Scheme, which involved going into a secondary school and helping run classes jointly with teaching staff, I did this primarily in conjunction with Northfield Academy’s history department.

While undertaking the LLM and engaging with the BP Student Tutoring Scheme, I was also tutoring a client in higher history, the client’s success was a highlight of my year. My client had been achieving low C’s and D’s prior to my input and subsequently achieved a higher B which I was told was very close to a higher A.

I am currently employed in Edinburgh, working for the Scottish Rural Agricultural College’s Research Division.

I have previously been employed with the European Policies Research Centre EPRC in Glasgow, working as a Temporary Assistant while transitioning to my final year of undergraduate study with Aberdeen University in the summer of 2014. I was then asked if I would return to EPRC in 2016 as a Research Assistant from April to August. The role gave more responsibilities, including in depth analytical and research tasks directly involving my input on many of the centres tenders, project proposals and ongoing commissioned work. A reference from Prof John Bachtler, Director of EPRC can be obtained upon request.

I endeavour to give the utmost I can in any role, patience, dedication and care are qualities I pride myself on having, alongside excellent listening skills. These skills enable me to provide the best answers and analysis to questions as possible. I have experience of higher level subjects, having attained an A in Politics, B in History, B in Philosophy and a B in Modern Studies at higher level secondary.

I keep active and am a semi professional badminton player, I have played for the University of Aberdeen's badminton team in British Universities Championships (BUCS), I have been ranked inside the top 50 seeded players in Scotland and have won several tournaments hosted by Highland Badminton Group.

I am PVG registered.

I am willing to travel and have my own transport, however please be aware that a long or extended distance of travel could incur extra cost, but I am willing to tutor in and around Edinburgh.

Tutoring Experience:

A calm, measured and competent approach to tuition will always aim to give the tutee the best service possible. Going the extra mile to ensure complete customer satisfaction is something I fully endorse and apply to my approach with tutoring.

Teaching experience includes formal and informal teaching and tutoring, helping friends with their studies and providing basic guidance on subject matter, as well as providing private tuition in higher history for a client in 2016.

Undergoing private tuition within my own education, experience undertaking the BP Student Tutoring Scheme and providing private tuition to a client has given me a large amount of knowledge around best practice, techniques involved in teaching and tuition and creating the environment needed to develop the skills necessary to acheive the best results and realise a tutees potential.

Tutoring Approach:

A measured and reasoned approach has to be taken to provide the best service and attain the best results. I would ensure that the tutoring offered was done so in as calm and relaxed an atmosphere as possible, without compromising the learning capacity of the tutee. Flexibility with regard to the teaching is something I also understand, some may need more knowledge on the area they are studying, whereas others may need help with structure and written assignments, the tuition offered will cater to both those aspects.

I'm passionate about the subjects I offer tuition in and have done a lot of work on a broad range of topics relating to those subjects. My previous experience and work around those subjects allows special insight into the subject areas I offer.

I have extensive experience in writing critical and analytical essays, literature reviews and bibliographies on a number of different case studies and topics. My goal with regard to tutoring is to deliver my best possible service to tutees, ensuring that they achieve the best results possible for their academic progression.
