Personal Description:

I am a 23 year old History PhD student currently studying at Durham University. I absolutely love History and have enjoyed tutoring it for several years now at a range of levels- I believe in developing well rounded- inquisitive students and having a good time doing so! My own specialties are in Modern History, specifically Global History and African History in the 20th Century, but I have experience of and can teach a much broader range of topics.

I studied my Undergraduate degree at Oxford and my MA at SOAS, University of London. Having experienced the pressures of applying to and then studying at these kind of institutions I know how to help get the best out of students at A Level through to Undergraduate level.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored several AS and A Level students to pass core modules and to help with coursework- achieving the target grades in all cases. I have also tutored two Undergraduates to assist with their final exams and with coursework- achieving higher than expected results.

Whilst still a relatively young and inexperienced tutor, I believe my recent experience and knowledge of the educational process at those levels is a definite advantage.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a progressive style of tutoring- meeting initially to assess which topics/areas need to be worked on, and then working with the student to develop a weekly plan of independent work coupled with email correspondence and then a one to one tutorial session with me. This allows for regular feedback and encouragement and also builds the independent work capabilities of the student.
