This is how 2 referees rated Tara:
I'm currently a third year student studying MEng Mechanical and Energy Engineering at Heriot Watt University. I am friendly and hardworking and will endeavour to help you reach your potential even if that means exceeding your own expectations.
I have a natural flair for English and Geography in which I can competently convey ideas and methods to achieve success. My particular strengths are in analysis and writing, I can assist with providing feedback on essays and structuring answers. I can aid with tackling close reading, textual analysis, creative writing and persuasive/discursive essays. In terms of Geography I can provide analytical insight as well as explain the theory clearly to ensure understanding is attained.
For Mathematics and Physics I understand the processes and I am able to explain clearly how to tackle questions. I also understand the importance of feeling confident doing past papers which is achieved through practice and firm understanding. My degree is very much based on Mathematics and Physics therefore I believe I am knowledgeable and competent in these subjects.
Evidence of my capabilities are shown in academic results and extra curricular activities.

I taught science in a local primary school for one year voluntarily while at school. I designed lesson plans and engaged the pupils in a variety of ways whether by presentations, experiments, focus groups or inviting speakers. My Scottish Baccalaureate report investigated the promotion of science in primary schools.
'I’m really impressed at the work you’ve done through the award and your ability to adapt to whatever is required, such as healthy eating, as well as doing all the research for your Baccalaureate which is excellent.
Your insight into how children learn and their behaviours in a lesson is really well observed and understood. You’d make a good teacher!' - Education Support Officer and Head of Science Ambassador Programme– Aberdeen City Council

I would initially ask the pupil which areas they feel they need to focus on based on teacher input, grades and overall confidence in a subject. At this point I would tailor lessons to suit these topics, in particular I would put great emphasis on clear explanations and plenty of practice so that the theory can be grasped. I would primarily explain from my own knowledge and supplementary research. This would be reinforced by trying questions and discussing problems that arise.
Personally, I think it is extremely important to have confidence when entering an exam and I would help any individual to achieve their potential.
