This is how 2 referees rated Tamara:
I have a strong interest in the Life Sciences and have completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Zoology at Swansea University, an MSc in Biological Diversity at Plymouth University, a PGCE for the FE sector, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Biological Recording with Manchester Metropolitan University.
I have a passion for teaching and enjoy explaining difficult concepts in a one to one tuition environment. I am very patient and an open to hearing exacting what the learner would like to gain more knowledge and confidence on. I put a strong focus on discovering the areas of the syllabus that need more practice.
I have 5 years teaching experience in both Schools and FE Colleges and am currently employed as a Biology Lecturer, teaching on a wide variety of courses which include A Level Biology, Access to Health, Access to Science and Medicine, GCSE Biology, BTEC Applied Science and HND Applied Science.
I have an interest in both Animal and Human Biology and have experience teaching students with ambitions of training as Nurses and other health care roles on the Access to Health course, as well as students who aim to work in a wide range of scientific careers ranging from Biochemistry, Forensic science, Medicine and Veterinary sciences.
Previous to my current position, I worked as a Biology Teacher in an Independent School for Girls, teaching GCSE Biology as well as KS3 Physics and Chemistry and before this I had a role as a Biology Lecturer at Cambridge Regional College, and again, gained experience of teaching on a wide range of Biology courses including A Level, GCSE, Access to Nursing, National Diploma in Medical, Laboratory and Applied Sciences and International Baccalaureate.
I also had tutor responsibilities, taught on a GCSE Biology evening class as well as on a Level 2 Technical Certificate at Addenbrookes. I also have experience of working as a tutor. I completed a PGCE position at Truro College in Cornwall teaching Biology, Environmental and Forensic Science. This position involved teaching on a wide range of Biology related courses including;
• A Level Biology • A Level Environmental Studies
• International Baccalaureate (Higher Biology) • National Diploma in Forensic Science
• Access to Science (Biology Units) • GCSE Biology
Before starting tuition I assess the needs of the individual learner and the subject area where more knowledge and skill is needed. I always provide work booklets as a break down to each subject, including objectives, introductory activities, questions at the level required to discuss and work through as well as past exam paper questions.
Tuition is open to student needs so don't be afraid to say exactly what subject area and skill you feel you need to work on.
