I am a First Class Honours Biomedical Science graduate with a Masters' in Neuroscience, currently working in the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition to my love for Science, I have a passion for teaching! I have always been involved in teaching and training others during university and employment therefore I would like to continue offering private tutoring up to GCSE level.
I am friendly, easy to get along with and have a passion in motivating students to achieve the best of their ability.
Since the final year of my undergraduate study, I have offered tutoring in GCSE Biology and Chemistry. Over the last 4 years, I have taught students from KS1 (5-7 year olds) up to A Levels.
I have extensive experience in a wide range of exam boards including AQA, OCR 21st Century Science and Edexcel iGCSE. I also have experience teaching online via Skype to students living as far as the Middle East so online tutoring sessions are not an issue!
I am familiar with the questions and styles produced by these different exam boards and I will ensure students are given tips to help them get full marks on the questions.
I am also a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassador which involves volunteering in primary schools to encourage young pupils to pursue careers in Science.
My approach to tutoring is to personalise each tutoring session to the student and to determine how they learn best i.e. Visual, auditory or practical learning. To understand the student's weaknesses and strengths to help consolidate the knowledge they have learnt in school.
I recognise the student's weakest areas and focus on helping them become confident in that area. I accomplish this by practicing exam questions and techniques with the student. My tutoring techniques differ from student to student to provide the best teaching experience.
I would also divide the topics within the syllabus so the student isn't overwhelmed by a large amount of information. After the first lesson, I generally determine the pace at which the student works at and appreciate this will be different between students. Using this, I will ensure I plan the tutoring sessions well in advance to cover all the content without overwhelming the student. I will set regular homework and conduct small tests within sessions to reinforce what has been taught in previous sessions. I possess a number of resources and revision aids to help students achieve the very best!
I find discussions with the student and working through examples including those in past papers are good approaches to learning. A good working relationship between tutor and student is also essential.
