I am a PhD student in Atmospheric Sciences at Lancaster University. I hold a MS by research degree from Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), Chennai, India and a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering. (IITs are very prestigious institutions in India. Read more about my college here: http://indianexpress.com/article/education/top-25-engineering-colleges-in-india-nirf-ranking-2016/).
I'm naturally inclined towards teaching and academics- this is demonstrable because I've chosen to do a PhD leaving behind some lucrative job offers in industry. I intend to make a career in academia and I very much enjoy the process of explaining things clearly to anybody.
I have taught Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to high school students back in India.
I believe anybody in the world can understand anything clearly provided they're given sufficient time to grasp the matter. Few people take lesser time than others to understand concepts and this creates competition within the classroom to be the first one to answer a question. This can seriously harm the ability of a student who likes to learn things a bit more slowly. I always encourage asking questions and guessing the answers even before the lesson is taught. Then I go on to ask the reason why the student guessed that way. This reveals their process of thinking- and that is what has to be sharpened.
Moreover, I believe in giving very simple real-life examples to demonstrate a concept. I believe in the philosophy of Einstein: "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well."
