I taught numeracy and mathematics in UK schools for nine years, both in secondary and primary schools. As a private tutor in the last eight years I have often helped secondary school students preparing for their exams to overcome their difficulties, to improve their confidence and to achieve a higher level but I am happy to work with younger students as well. I love teaching maths and seeing my students improve and become successful. I have been a qualified teacher for thirty years. I am married with three children. I have been in Lancaster for more than twenty years but I have lived in several countries and travelled a lot all over the world.
I specialise in teaching mathematics from primary up to the new GCSE grade 9 and also A level Core 1-4 and Statistics. I have prepared many students for success in progress and end-of-year tests, secondary school entrance tests and GCSE and A level examinations. I have taught students at all levels, including gifted and talented, as well as students with, for example, discalculia or dyslexia. At different points in their lives, I have home-tutored my three children in maths and they have had excellent results.
I am expert in bringing students up to their next level by the step method clear progress through defined small steps through which, in a friendly and supportive way, mathematics is explained, understood, tried-out, tested, revised and built up. I work with my students on the current maths programmes set for them by their school or college and, at the same time, go back looking for the roots of any difficulties which they have. Together we sort them out. Its just a question of the right approach, being determined, working hard, getting rid of bad habits and believing in yourself. I have a large library of maths learning materials and resources, including past test papers at all levels, and I choose the best ones to suit students needs.
