Susan

I am a retired teacher, cheerful and with a positive and encouraging nature. I have been teaching Psychology for over 20 years and can adapt my teaching to suit the individual. I enjoy motivating others to achieve their ambitions and get a great deal of satisfaction from the success of my students.

I gained my BA Honours degree in 1984. I majored in Psychology with Sociology and Biology as minor subjects and had a career in the Civil Service before re-training to become a teacher.

I laugh easily and like to make learning fun

Tutoring Experience

My main teaching subject is Psychology and I have taught GCSE, AS Level and A Level Psychology for a number of examination boards and in a variety of settings including; School, Sixth Form College, Adult Only Education and as a Private Tutor.

As a supply teacher I have taught a variety of lessons in several secondary schools and tutored young people in preparation for their GCSE Examinations in Mathematics and Science.

I have also worked in a primary school and privately tutored children from as young as 6 years of age. For 12 months I worked full time, one to one with an 11 year old boy with complex learning difficulties including Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

I completed my PGCE whilst teaching at King Edward VI Sixth Form College in Stourbridge, I left this job to experience teaching overseas including; Russia, Germany and Saudi Arabia and returned to King Edwards 2015 to 2018.

I have undertaken training in understanding learning difficulties created by Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Tutoring Approach

I like to encourage my students to find their best way of learning and will adapt my teaching to meet their preferred learning style.

I would aim to provide the style of support that the learner wants e.g. Some students might prefer to practice exam questions and so I can advise on exam technique and set work appropriate for their exam board, others might want me to support them by tutoring alongside what they are being taught in school or college, supplementing or revisiting what they have already been taught, I am very flexible in my approach
