I am an experienced, patient and friendly primary school teacher with over 16 years of experience. I am also a mum to two teenagers, one of whom has Autism (Autistic Spectrum Condition – ASC). This has stimulated me to become extremely passionate and enthusiastic in being able to help children of all abilities. This has also helped me develop techniques to manage effective learning at home as well as in school.
I have worked as a Teacher in several primary schools across Swindon and the outlying villages. This has included class teaching as well as supply teaching; teaching children from Reception, Key Stage 1 & 2. During my own children’s schooling I have also worked as a teaching assistant. This has enabled me to specialise in supporting children on the autistic spectrum as well as pupils with dyslexia and ADHD. Due to my teaching experience, I have augmented this with running additional classes for various groups of special needs children such as “Movers & Groovers” to combine learning with fun exercises, phonics and spelling groups, reading comprehension and finger gym to improve handwriting.
I believe in a fun, yet practical approach to teaching. I also believe that effective tutoring is reliant on a degree of tailoring to suit the needs of the individual student. Therefore, where possible, I aim to use the child’s interests to inspire their engagement and understanding. It is also critical that focus is given to the student’s confidence and self-esteem through positive feedback, constructive criticism and lots of encouragement.
