Before I go any further is there an age limit on tutors. I am an active 70 year old and have only just stopped teaching in a school. If you can not accept my application please ignore the rest of my form!!
I am married and have 3 grown up children. I spend a great deal of my time looking after 5 bearded collies who are house pets but go in the show ring. We have shown our dogs at Crufts with some success and have bred 4 litters, but only when we want a new puppy. Obviously if tutoring at my house the dogs will be kept in a different part of the house.
I also enjoy readiing, particularly some authors eg. Michael Morpurgo, who write for children. I also enjoy watching sport, having been active in both the swimming pool and on the athletic track in the past.
I have been teaching in the same primary school for over 20 years and during this time have taught children aged 6 years to 11 years in all subjects of the Primary National Curriculum. I introduced the English National Curriculum to my school and held the position of Literacy Co-ordinator for a number of years. I have also been a mentor to newly qualified teachers and a member of the senior teachers team.
Whenever I can I use first hand experience and a practical approach to tutoring. I also think it is important to listen to the tutee and obviously plan lessons carefully to cater for his/her needs. As these sessions are probably extra to school lessons, I endevour to make them fun and light as I believe this will help learning and hopefully success.
When teaching English I use real text wherever possible and will plan lessons around stories.
