Personal Description:

Recently left teaching at Upper School in Wimborne. Relocated to Devon, based in Tiverton at the moment but tutoring available with 15 mile radius. Well experienced in the teaching of English Language and Literature to students with Special Educational Needs/SPLD/Dyslexia. Have also taught to C/D grades and top sets in years 9 - 11.
Hard working, well prepared and committed to my work. Good rapport with students and work with empathy and understanding. Enthusiastic teacher with the ability to produce results using encouragement and individually tailored lessons.
Very patient and encouraging with a love of the subject. Flexible methodology to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
Learning should be enjoyable and interactive with emphasis on working with individual learning styles to allow students to perform at their best. Flexibility of method and a variety of resources and techniques should enable all students to achieve and progress happily, tutoring should not be a chore but it should be effective. Progression and understanding are the key elements. Multi sensory methods for all students can be utilised effectively, learning is not static. There should be an element of fun, where appropriate, praise and support are vital but with the background of hard work and concentration on the part of the student.

Tutoring Experience:

Worked for 20 years in Upper school, 13-18, in Dorset and previously 10 years in Basingstoke 11-16 school.
Experienced English teacher [language and literature up to GCSE level] and SEN teacher with specialism in SPLDs.
Have had experience of teaching students whose first language is not English and so offering TESOL, English as a second language, to students from middle school to adults.
