This is how 2 referees rated Susan:
I am an English teacher with over 15 years' experience in both the independent and state sector. I have an excellent exam performance record and have helped students across the ability spectrum achieve strong results for GCSE, A level English. I'm passionate about my subject and love to teach.
I have seven years' experience of teaching A Level English and over ten years' experience of teaching GCSE English in schools and colleges. I have taught A Level English Literature, A Level Lang/Lit and A Level English Language and was Course Leader for a one year GCSE English program for several years.
I have always run one-to-one tutoring sessions alongside my main class teaching, particularly in the run up to A and AS coursework deadlines and GCSE exams. I recently wrote and taught an intensive literacy program for year 10 and 11 pupils designed to improve basic literacy skills in preparation for GCSE controlled assessments and end of year exams.
I am also an AQA B examiner for A Level English Literature and an examiner/moderator for IGCSE First Language English.
My approach is tightly focused on building the skills to meet the assessment focuses for specific course units and specifications. This may involve work to improve a student's basic literacy or close reading skills for GCSE English, or it may be helping students access difficult literary texts for GCSE English Literature. For A Level, it may also include supportng students through coursework tasks, helping them build an appropriate technical vocabulary for textual analysis or teaching students how to structure exam answers to make sure they are hitting the assessment criteria.
Further to this, we will work through exam practice questions in tutorial sessions where appropriate, and students will be given revision notes and short homeworks to consolidate learning.
