Personal Description:

I am originally from Dublin, Ireland. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge. My research is focused in the area of cancer and inflammation. I am passionate about science and research. I have a significant amount of teaching experience and find it to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.

Tutoring Experience:

I obtained by Teaching Association Accreditation through the University of Cambridge and am currently doing small group teaching for a number of the Cambridge Colleges. I mainly teach Pharmacology and Neuroscience to Science, Medical and Veterinary students. I have been teaching at the University for the past 3 years.

I also supervise PhD students, Undergraduate and School Students in the lab.

I have experience tutoring students for GCSE Biology, OCR A2 Biology, UkCAT preparation and interview preparation for University entry. I have also tutored University students at various stages and courses, including Biomedical Genetics, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Inflammation and Immunity, Metabolism, Addiction, Physiology and thesis preparation for final year projects, Masters and PhD's in Medical and Life Science.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very student orientated. I believe the best way to learn about science is to make it as fun and hands on as possible. It is important that the student leads the sessions. I try to focus as much as possible on the topics the student is struggling with but also believe it is important to cover all topics. I encourage my students to ask questions, to openly discuss issues and topics and voice opinions. I also try to include some assessment or homework, nothing that demands too much time, but shows the student now understands the topic.
