I am currently the Head of Chemistry at a Private Independent College in London teaching GCSE/A-Level Chemistry. Prior to this I have held identical positions within a number of FE coleges and at University level.
I have been teaching Chemistry for 15 years and this has included both public teaching and private tutoring.
I have taught in schools (public and private), colleges (FE and sixth form) and Universities across age ranges of 12-over 25. I have been observed by both Ofsted and QAA representatives and have been judged to be outstanding in my practice, delivery and assessments. My excellence has been rewarding by my various roles within education, teaching and learning and external examinerships. I also hold responsibilities for working as an external advisor to a number of schools and private colleges in Chemistry. Part of my tutoring has involved working as a senior teaching and learning mentor to observe and develop Chemistry tutors across the UK.
My major speciality is teaching at GCSE/A-Level, my extensive experience and knowledge has helped me to achieve excellent grades for my students and I have used a variety of skills, independent research and mock examination techniques to help my students attain excellent grades. I have worked throughout the whole academic year inclusive of school/national holidays providing teaching and intensive revision sessions for individuals and groups of students and the rewards gained from this have been immense, resulting in outstanding public examination results.
I have also worked extensively as a UCAS advisor and have helped my students prepare UCAS forms and personal statements. I am familiar with teaching across all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, IB). In addition to my teaching, I have tutored students worldwide using online tutorials, students from the UK, Asia, China, USA and Europe. I do not believe that location should be a barrier, I can use my skills to teach using digital approaches which has the same beneficial effect whether it be online or face to face. I have gained excellent recognition and rapport with my students and am extremely professional in my subject and duties to achieve the best.
For the more advanced learners, I have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Warwick and have acquired to additional teaching qualifications (DET, PgCertificate) which demonstrate my excellence and high class nature to teach and promote Chemistry to all ages. I can extend my tutoring to BSc/Degree level or even Postgraduate level if required.
I believe that I can provide an excellent tutoring experience to any student, I have the patience, understanding and academic nature to achieve great success. With my educational qualifications, teaching certificates and experiences in senior Chemistry roles, I am sure I could provide a fantastic teaching experience which will lead to success. I am a recognised member of the Royal Society of Chemistry through my teaching, tutoring and research efforts and also operate as a tutor for international clients. I am open to teaching at short notice, face-to-face/online as I am au fait with both types and my approach and expectations are extremely high – I want to my students to achieve the best.
15 years at all levels
FE Colleges (BTEC, First, National and Extended Diplomas)
Schools (GCSE/IGCSE, A Level - Edexcel, AQA and OCR Boards)
Two full teaching qualifications
Ofsted and QAA Outstanding Achievement
I teach using textbooks, exam style questions and academic worksheets which help students prepare for examinations and written based assessments even if they are unfamiliar or not successful using traditional approaches to learning.
I can organise teaching sessions at short notice but apply theory to practice effectively which helps to build confidence and success.
If face to face (all levels) I use a Q+A, subject booklet and practical teaching approach, learning by doing. I often use whiteboards and exam papers to consolidate learning
For online learning I use all of the above inclusive of skype and graphics pad to help illustrate more practical and theory based scenarios followed by test questions and mock examaintion papers.
