I have a PhD in Psychology and I am a qualified teacher for Higher Education. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have designed several online learning modules for university students, as well as designing and developing an undergraduate degree programme in Psychology, Education and Special Educational Needs. I have carried out research in learning and teaching and used to work as a learning developer in a university, so I have an in depth understanding of how people learn.
I have over 10 years of experience teaching at Higher Education. I have taught Psychology for the Open University, taught Psychology in Portsmouth University, and led a course in Psychology, Education and SEN at a University in Cardiff.
I have experience of teaching academic and study skills to students in Higher Education, as well as designing learning materials.
I also have experience of 1:1 tuition in study skills for students with Specific Learning Difficulties.
I am able to tutor both face to face and online. I try to equip students with the skills they need for their studies. My main focus is to help foster autonomous learning. I follow a just in time approach to teaching, where timing is critical to learning, understanding, and retention. I try to make learning interesting, as this is more likely to motivate students to want to enhance their skills and ability.
