Delighted to finally be able to offer face-to-face tuition again from 17 May 2021.
I am (early) retired and was Head of Mathematics and Senior Teacher at a Girls' Independent school in the North West. I moved to Sheringham in 2017 after tutoring in Norwich since February 2011. The summer exam results each year have always reflected the work I and my tutees put in. Those not yet at the end of their course continue with me.
My strength lies particularly with A level candidates.
In 2020, before exams were cancelled, I had 3 Year 13 tutees from Paston, Gresham's and CNS. All 3 were finally awarded the grades I felt they would have achieved in June and their places at University. I have had a tutee re taking her A level Maths and Further Maths. I was her only tutor. She had one session a week with me of 1½ hours during which I went over any problems and set her programme of study for the week ahead. She achieved A* in Maths and A in FM. Another tutee needed an A grade and Bmat for medical school. Firstly I helped her with Bmat maths questions and technique, then we caught up work that had been "skimmed over" during that time. After interruptions for interviews, we were able to focus on any gaps and prepare for the exams. She achieved an A* in Maths and gained her place at med school. A third Year 13 tutee achieved a place at a Hungarian University to read medicine. One tutee scored 97% on mechanics - a subject she had been terrified of, and the teacher was behind with.
Married and mother to two grown up children, I have not only taught Mathematics for over 40 years at all levels of secondary education, but also been a qualified athletics coach.
I now enjoy co-ordinating a U3A walking group and regularly lead walks for the Ramblers as well as keeping fit at the gym and improving my french.

Tutoring Experience

Over thirty years experience of teaching Mathematics at all levels of Secondary education from Set 13 at an Inner London Comprehensive to Further Mathematics at a top co-educational Independent school. I have also given private one-to-one tuition throughout, mostly to children of friends or ex pupils, until retirement. At A level, whilst I prefer Pure Mathematics and Mechanics, I can offer Statistics. Clearly I was successfully CRB checked whilst teaching, but this will have lapsed.

Tutoring Approach

I am calm and patient. I endeavour to build confidence by going back to basics in order to find where the thread has broken and then re-build carefully. Never would I go over the same topic in the same manner - drumming it home. I always look for a different or new approach.
I believe that practice makes permanent, and use many examination questions when appropriate to increase confidence and reduce nerves/panic.
I prepare thoroughly and try to "stretch" the more able, with more demanding questions
I expect my pupils to want to succeed and be prepared occasionally to put in some time outside the lesson.
