I am an ex-head of science and all my lesson observations over several years have been outstanding. I have been teaching since 2000 and have always taught all 3 sciences at GCSE and Chemistry to A Level. I am familiar with the AQA A Level course and fully understand the format of the exams and practical based questions in the papers. It is important to test understanding, students are expected to practice exam questions from past papers, most of which are organised into booklets and broken down to reflect each chapter. I am a confident, outgoing person who enjoys meeting people of all ages and backgrounds. I enjoy keeping fit by running, cycling and swimming.
I have taught children of all abilities and age ranges for over 18 years. During this time I have developed the necessary skills to adapt the delivery of scientific ideas so all students access and comprehend the content. In a class of students it is important to identify and spend time with those who struggle with new knowledge and those who just need a little more reassurance. I have very high expectations of students. Those who fall short of the mark during class assessments are expected to return in their own time and be re-assessed until they achieve the minimum expected of them. This approach has meant my classes have achieved the best exam results year on year for both GCSE and A level.
I believe it is important to identify misconceptions and instill confidence in students quickly. I use a variety of online, text books and paper resources to help students achieve to the best of their ability. Each one to one session and resources are designed for the individual with additional application of knowledge questions to help consolidate the content covered. My GCSE and A level classes currently have the highest pass rates.
