I am Stuart Salmon and I have a PhD in History from the University of Stirling. My topic was on the American Revolution. I work as a teaching assistant at the University of Stirling and also as a research assistant. I help out with my local amateur dramatic club and like walking, reading and watching films. I can tutor History at all levels from School to University and I am also able to teach Politics at school level.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught History at three different universities(Stirling, Dundee and Edinburgh), both as a tutor and lecturer. I have been a university tutor since 2004 and have run my own courses on several occasions. My speciality is American History but I have taught modern British and European History as well and I have also have taught some politics . I have marked A levels and GCSE's so am familiar with the school curriculum. I studied under the Scottish Higher system so am familiar with that as well.

Tutoring Approach

I will work with the curriculum but I also like to use anecdotes to bring history to life. I understand that remembering the issues is not always easy so I will try and break things down and to to give clear explanations. I will help with essay and exam techniques and can also give advice on spoken presentations. I take my subject seriously but I like to teach with humour.
