I am a fully qualified teacher with more than 15 years experience in the Secondary school sector. I entered teaching after a career in the communications sector as a Design Manager. My students ranged in age from 11 to 18. In addition I am experienced in helping students through their UCAS applications.
I moved to Oxfordshire in 2012 and am currently working 3 days a week at a School teaching Physics to students aged 14 to 18. This is allowing me time to work with students, who for a variety of reasons do not or cannot attend school or are being Home Educated.
I qualified as a teacher of ICT in 2003 but always worked across subjects teaching both ICT and Physics and some Maths in a challenging school in the North West of England for 9 years. We relocated to Oxfordshire in 2012. After 15 months in a private college in Oxford teaching international students who wish to continue onto a British University after their studies at A level. I decided to return to the state sector in an outstanding school in Berkshire teaching Science, Maths and A level Physics Although I normally teach in a classroom I have found it immensely enjoyable working one to one or with small groups that enable me to get to know the tutees strengths and working on their areas of improvement. As I move nearer to retirement I am expanding my tutor practice into the home education area and working with pupils who do not attend normal schools.
Currently I am available
Evenings - Monday; Tuesday; Thursday
Daytime- Thursday, alternate Wednesdays
Firstly I will discuss the need for tutoring with the student and the fee payer to find out their expectations and aims.
Secondly I will assess the students knowledge of the subject; what they feel about the subject; what they find difficult/easy and what interests them about the subject and if they have a long term objective.
Thirdly we will agree a teaching strategy and timetable for the forthcoming weeks/months with the knowledge that if the student is attending school then the timetable may need to be altered to align or reinforce the work covered there.
I try to make the learning fun and attempt to relate the learning to the students own interests wherever possible making sure that the students understand the topics before moving on. In return I expect the student to assume some responsibility for their studies and complete any assignments and reading tasks asked of them.
