I have extensive experience in supporting children's learning as a Primary School Teacher. I love learning and am always looking for new skills I can acquire. As well as having a love for learning, I have always loved teaching. Teaching, explaining and mentoring has always been part of my working life. In addition to working as a tutor, I enjoy teaching dance (Lindy Hop and Jitterbug) and working with clients as a therapist. I thoroughly enjoy seeing children grasping concepts: whether it's a sudden a-ha moment or a slowly growing confidence.
In addition to my informal teaching skills as a dance teacher and therapist, I qualified as a Primary School tutor in 2013. Following several years as a teaching assistant, and then trainee teacher, I enjoyed working as a classroom teacher for more than 3 years. I now enjoy putting my skills to use on a 1-1 basis. My experience as a classroom teacher included teaching children from year 1 to 6 and I have a very solid understanding of the expectations of the National Curriculum. More importantly, I have tested approaches to helping children reach those expectations.
I have extensive experience in helping children to make brilliant progress by taking a targeted approach. I believe the key to moving a child forwards is finding out exactly what the next step needs to be. This ensures the child is not overwhelmed and that learning is embedded and secure. This is essential to support later skills. I feel the best learning is done when the knowledge/skills are presented clearly and in a memorable way with challenges which help to cement the learning. And, of course, enjoyable too!
