I came late into teaching having worked in the textile industry for nearly twenty years, an experience which has been invaluable in my teaching career. In addition to a BA and PGCE in Humanities and Literature I have a Dip Ed in Media Studies, a PG Diploma in Victorian Studies, and an MA in Creative Writing. Every day is an exciting challenge in the classroom and I am as enthusiastic and passionate about teaching as I was when I first started.
During the global pandemic, I have turned to online tutoring via Google Meet, particularly students in Years 10/11 and 12/13.
Please note there may be a cancellation fee if lessons are cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
I have taught English, Drama and Media Studies at KS3, 4 and 5 for twenty years and have tutored throughout that time. I consistently gain good results, particularly at the former GCSE C/D borderline and the now 4/5 borderline. GCSE results: 100% A*-C passes/100% 9-4.
A-level 75% A/B pass rate English Literature.
Above 50% A/B pass rate AS and A2 English Language.
100% passes in Creative Writing.
I am also an English Literature and Media Studies examiner.
Consistent feedback identifies one of my strengths as being 'relationship with students' - I endeavour to talk to all students as though they are adults who are capable of making their own decisions. I expect all work set to be completed between tutoring sessions - homework and research are a necessary part of additional study.
