Having completed my A levels at Dr Challoner’s High School last year, I have spent this academic year working in a primary school as a teaching assistant, prior to beginning a course in Politics and Sociology at the University of Exeter in September. After my degree I intend to complete training as a primary school teacher.
The main breadth of my experience comes from the past academic year during which I have been working as a teaching assistant in a primary school. Within the school my role includes helping out during lessons as well as taking individuals and groups out to work with them on areas they are particularly struggling with. This experience means that I am up to date with current methods and techniques used at primary schools and can therefore work with children using the same methods that they use in class.
I also have experience tutoring maths ranging from year three to year eleven and therefore understand the importance of good communication and encouraging confidence in those I am teaching.
While at Challoner’s I also took part in their mentoring scheme, working with KS3 pupils on a one to one basis to help them in any area of maths they felt they needed extra support with.
I believe in learning in a fun, yet structured environment in order to create the best results. I am extremely flexible to the needs of both the child and their parents and am willing to provide extra work to be completed between sessions, should the parent feel that this would benefit their child.
I use a range of different techniques and methods apppropriate to the age of the child including games, worksheets, activities on whiteboards, textbook or workbook exercises and past papers.
