I am a friendly, experienced Psychology postgraduate, qualified to Masters level. My specialism is in Forensic Psychology and I have nine years experience working in psychological roles within the Prison Service. I am currently employed as as researcher at the Institute of Criminology: Cambridge University.
I have lived and breathed psychology since A Level, through to undergraduate, postgraduate and professional practice, and I would love to assist aspiring students to take their psychology studies to the next level. Learning critical analysis, terminology and research methods can all be daunting, but once learnt they are great tools for your career, further learning and your general approach to understanding the world and the people in it. It's an exciting subject!
If you are studying psychology, interested in extra tuition to help with your understanding of theory or research, and would like to learn from someone with extensive academic and professional experience, then do please get in touch. I would be particularly suited to those studying forensic psychology modules or courses, and to those looking for more support in statistics and research methods. I have particular experience in assessing research proposals and can assist you in learning how to develop high quality, realistic dissertation plans.
I have informally taught research methods and critical thinking in psychology for nine years and provided formal professional support in Research Methods to other psychologists for two years. I have experience in HE lectures. I have extensive experience in teaching in forensic contexts and am accustomed to working with individuals with a range of learning styles. I can provide focused tuition which is responsive to attention spans, audio/visual/kinasthetic preferences, preference for "real life" examples, active teaching and creative support for each student's unique needs and strengths. I am well aware of subject matter in Psychology which can appear boring/overwhelming and take care to present this in an interesting and understandable way!
An additional benefit to studying with me is that as well as academic competency, you will gain an insight into the professional world of psychology and how to progress to a career in this if you want to.
Everybody is individual and I take care to consider what each student needs, wants and prefers when it comes to their learning. My primary concern is that students find their learning engaging and feel they are receiving the support that they need. I will therefore work collaboratively to identify what they need and how we can work together for them to achieve what they want to in their psychology studies. This could range from gaining a better understanding of theoretical content, to specific support in developing their dissertation proposal.
