Personal Description:

I am a 23 year old Oxford graduate, where I achieved a First Class degree in Biological sciences. I now live in London where I am a freelance science journalist, am studying a part time Masters in Sciences and work as a private tutor. I've been tutoring for the past 2 years, mainly GCSE Maths and Sciences, and A level Biology and Chemistry. I have also had a few students to work on their personal statements, and others to practise interview technique.

Tutoring Experience:

I have had a mixture of tutees, from A2 level Biology and Chemistry students, Maths GCSE students through to Oxford applicants who require interview help. Whatever the student I think the most important thing is to devise a plan that works for them and will allow them to achieve their potential - so I always begin with a new students by asking them exactly what they need help with and pin pointing the most tricky areas for them.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way of learning is by doing, and I always find a way to ensure my tutee enjoys what we are covering - enthusiasm is key to transforming the learning experience. My tutoring approach involves a lot of talking, drawing, questioning, practical demonstration and discussion of anything that captures my tutee's interest. I encourage questions and exploration of ideas. However, I also think it's important to be able to nail exam technique and not loose easy marks, so I have an emphasis on going through questions together and marking them once we've talked through and fully understood the topic.

I've been through the rigorous Oxford interview process, so am confident in preparing my tutee in terms of knowledge and their approach to the questions they might get asked.
