I am an enthusiastic, passionate and well educated trained Geography teacher and Assistant Examiner for OCR. Until July 2014 I worked at the outstanding Comberton Village College in Cambridgeshire and ran the Geography department at the smaller sister school Cambourne Village College. I took the decision to move onto a challenge outside of teaching but I use tutoring as an opportunity to continue working with young people and pushing them to being the most engaged and successful that they can be which was my favourite part of the teaching role. My subject knowledge is extremely up to date and I have a good knowledge of main exam boards after tutoring students studying for AQA and WJEC GCSEs annd OCR, AQA and Edexcel As and Alevel Geography in previous academic years. I also mark GCSE and ALevel Geography exam papers for the OCR examination board.
After completing my masters degree and teacher training at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, Norfolk I worked for a year as a Geography and Citizenship teacher at Caister High School on the East coast of Norfolk. From there I took on a leadership position within the Comberton Academy Trust in Cambridgeshire. I have taught a variety of exam board specifications up to A-Level standard with a very strong record of results.
Tutoring sessions are productive and tailored to the needs of the individual learner. This is achieved through clear communication between myself and tutees from the first consultation where we set down the guidelines and map out exactly what we want to achieve. We put together a basic schedule of what we want to cover in the first few sessions and then each session I will bring prepared resources and exam papers (all included in the hourly cost). Before the end of each session we will evaluate progress and decide what we want to achieve in the next session. I am happy to set and mark homework if this is required by tutee/parents. Tutees will also be able to contact me via email between sessions with any issues which they would like to address in the next session and I have a twitter feed which I use to regularly post links to articles and exam news. My key aims are to be friendly, approachable and flexible, as with all teachers and tutors the feeling of seeing our students achieve, with our guidance and their hard work, is the best job satisfaction! With the focus and lack of distraction afforded by private tutoring, goals which may have seemed out of reach become far more attainable.
