This is how 3 referees rated Sophie:
I live in St Helens, near Ryde, on the isle of Wight and have taught languages and English since 2009 and during these years have specialised in teaching French up to GCSE level. Completing an MSc in Learning and Teaching at the University of Oxford in 2012 provided me with a more thorough grounding to my teaching.
I am passionate about great quality teaching and hugely enjoy teaching - both in the classroom and one-to-one.
I now teach MFL and English part time in a local school as I have young children. Previously to this I taught for two years at a Free School in Buckinghamshire and for four years at a secondary school near Wellingborough. My first teaching experience in the UK was teaching English and EAL at an independent school in Wiltshire. It was teaching English in Italy after my degree which confirmed my desire to teach.
For four years I have been an examiner for the French GCSE writing unit for one of the major examination boards.
Lots of students will struggle with preparing for speaking and writing controlled assessments and I have worked with many students to help their confidence and help them perform to their best. I completely understand that controlled assessments are not easy and that they can be very daunting so improving confidence is key! This means practising and making sure that students are happy with what they prepare and now how to approach the controlled assessments. My experience as an examiner also means that I have a lot of experience of reading written controlled assessments.
Practise and confidence are also key for the reading and listening exams. We can do a lot of work to improve if this is required!
I will bring resources and will work hard but don't expect that the student won't be made to work hard too! Together, we'll work to make sure progress is made and learning is significant.
