I am currently a 4th year medical student, studying at the University of Nottingham as a mature student.
Prior to starting the clinical phase of my course, I worked in Addenbrookes hospital, Cambridge in medical research. Before that, I had a variety of jobs including as a residential tutor in a boarding school and as an administrator in schools.
I have been a tutor for the last 6 years on top of my main job. I really enjoy working with younger students and helping them in my learning and it hasn’t felt like an extra job!
I have had an average of 6 students a week for private tuition over the last couple of years, and they have mainly been long term. (3+ years). I have taught a variety of students, from different nationalities and backgrounds, from those who are struggling to keep up in class, to those who would like extra tuition to get an A* in their GCSEs.
I have also had experience working in an international boarding school where I looked after teenage girls in their boarding houses, as well as teach Biology one to one.
I have taught Primary to GCSE maths, Science and Piano over the years. At the moment I would like to offer Primary and lower secondary school maths and science tuition.
My strength is being sensitive to individual student’s needs and adapting my lessons to suit their learning style. I like to build good relationships with the students as well as the family and encourage students to take initiative in their learning. I believe that in order for students to get the most out of the lessons, they should have an interest in receiving tuition, and not forced into it.
For primary and KS3 students, I encourage parents to buy a few workbooks to aid the lessons, and I will supplement them with my resources where necessary.
I hope that I can build confidence in the students so that they can reach their full potential and inspire them to enjoy learning.
