I am a mother of 3 boys (2 adults and a teenager). I am also the Founder and Creator of a children's yoga and mindfulness teacher training company, which has been established since 1999. I have personally trained over 1,300 teachers in small groups and continue to develop the syllabus, which includes rhythm and rhyme and storytelling to assist the children in learning the various techniques. I have won and been shortlisted for various short story competitions, including StorySLAM Live at London's Southbank Centre, where i took up a post as Artistic Director for one year following my success. As part of my Masters degree I have written a 120,000 word novel and, for the love of it, a children's book. I was given a prestigious children's yoga book deal in 2004. I have Diploma in Physical Theatre (1991), Ba Hons. English (1998) and MA Creative Writing (2014).
For 20 years, I have taught children yoga and mindfulness techniques that I have written and that encompass stories. I have taught 1,300 teachers the techniques. I have written 3 extensive manuals of over 50,000 words for teachers to use as a back-up resource.
Firstly, I would like to discover your child's learning style and whether they have a natural linguistic leaning towards reading and writing which may be evident by their communication skills and ability to express their thoughts (including debating) and listen to others. Or perhaps your child is more reflective and enjoys writing shorts stories, poetry and keeping a diary. Or perhaps your child loves movement and learning on the 'go', which is where some of my yoga techniques scattered throughout the tutoring session may be beneficial. Or perhaps your child is more mathematical in their approach to learning and needs concepts explained in a logical way. There is no one way of teaching and my aim is to work with your child to offer them a tutoring session that sits comfortably with their way of learning. I will give your child regular, specific feedback and reward them for good work and consistency throughout the tutoring session so that I build up their self-esteem as the session goes along. If your child is feeling tired then I will take a mindfulness break and teach them a breathing technique that will boost their brain's oxygen levels. The ultimate aim of the tutoring session is for your to feel that learning English is fun and for them to go away feeling motivated.
