Sinead

I have been working as a language teacher in London schools for the past five years and have experience teaching with many different exam boards. Having learned four languages over the years, (3 at A-Level) I understand how challenging but also how rewarding language learning can be. I am a highly professional teacher with an outgoing and friendly personality and a true passion for my subject. I love my job and the most enjoyable and rewarding thing for me is watching my students make progress and gain in confidence.

I hold a degree in German and European Studies from University College Cork, Ireland and a PGCE in Secondary Modern Foreign Languages from the Institute of Education: the world's leading establishment for education. My belief is that languages are important not only for doing well in an exam, but also as a highly beneficial skill that can be used throughout life, both socially and professionaly.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching on a formal and informal basis for many years, first as a German tutor for secondary school pupils in Ireland and as an English language tutor in Germany and London. I have taught German and French in two secondary comprehensive schools in Redbridge and Hertfordshire as well as in leading grammar school in Enfield and a private school in Hampstead. I also have some expertise with special educational needs having worked as a Learning Support Assistant for one year.

Tutoring Approach

I will first ask to see some previous work that my student has done and have a discussion about what areas they would like to improve in the most. I ensure my lessons are highly productive and I tailor the content and lesson activities to each student's requirements. Grammar is broken down into logical steps, high-level structures are taught and recycled for use in writing and speaking and vocabulary learning skills are encouraged to create a more positive experience in this tedious task. I set high standards for my students while being as supportive and encouraging as possible. I believe my students enjoy and are motivated by my lessons because they can see from an early stage that they are making good progress.
