Professional Tutor, with experiences tutoring students from primary to A level, 1-1 and in groups.
I'm currently running a Maths and English Learning Centre in Stoneygate. Previously tutored students in London for GCSEs etc but I've now settled in Leicester.
I charge per month rather than per session, seeing students twice per week with small amounts of homework in between. My approach is quite different to other tutors so I offer a Free Assessment/Trial with no obligations to continue.
Experience tutoring students in Primary School to build confidence/academic foundation as well as exam preparation for GCSE/A-Level. I also run my own Learning Centre for Maths and English Supplementary Education.
My Maths programme has been developed in South Korea with the leading education company in the region. Our students develop critical thinking skills together with traditional arithmetic from a young age, leading to strong problem solvers. There is a strong emphasis on numbers and arithmetic but in secondary school and beyond it is important to have the foundations for understanding/solving problems.
The English programme has been approved by Cambridge University Press, in line with Global / National standards for English. We start from phonics and learning to read, before developing fluency and reading to learn.
Then our students are ready to focus on comprehension and writing skill.
Rather than tutor specifically towards a certain exam, first I identify my students' strengths and weaknesses. By doing this, I can give my students work appropriate for their ability, rather than their age. After all, if my students are struggling after 40 hours of school, will a few extra hours of the same work really help?
Therefore, during the first session I begin with a test to "diagnose" my students academic level. After this, I allow them to progress at their own pace. I prefer not to give too much instruction to avoid spoon-feeding / boring students. My main job is to make observations of how the students are working and provide appropriate feedback/instruction.
To sum up, my approach to tutoring is to see things from my student's perspective.
