I have been teaching Spanish for over 20 years from beginners through to advanced level. I am an English national but having gone through the process of learning Spanish myself I understand the problems English speakers face when trying to learn the language. I know how to address these issues whilst making lessons fun and enjoyable. Learning any language can be very challenging and takes a lot of hard work, my role is principally to provide discipline and a structure for learning Spanish and to support a student in speaking this beautiful language well.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught at Salford College of Further Education for 2 years but the majority of my teaching experience comes from private tuition on a one to one basis and in small groups. My private tuition has been via agencies such as First Tutors UK and word of mouth. I have taught school children studying GCSE and A-Level Spanish through to adults wanting to learn the language on a casual basis.
I have also worked for the University of Oxford Local Examination Board as an external oral examiner in A-Level Spanish for 2 years which involved travelling the country and visiting schools which used their syllabus to carry out oral examinations.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is very flexible, I adapt myself to the needs and requirements of the tutee, however I work from a very clear baseline i.e. that a knowledge of Spanish grammar is essential in understanding how to speak the language. When someone asks me to teach them conversational Spanish, grammar has to form part of the lesson. However, this does not have to mean that the lesson then becomes pure theory, dull or boring - quite the contrary. I have a wealth of knowledge and material at my fingertips and use these to make the whole experience very enjoyable.
