This is how a referee rated Sharon:
Hi, I am Sharon, a mum of two grown up boys. I am a caring, enthusiastic and friendly tutor with good inter personal skills. Working with primary school children for many years, I have been best described as having a skill of building children's confidence in maths as well as enhancing their learning. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and ensure that every child I work with achieves to their full potential.
I have worked with primary school children for 18 years. I started off assisting teachers in the classroom working alongside the children with learning/behaviour difficulties. As I have a passion for maths, I was given the role to do Maths interventions with children from Year 2 to Year 6. I now teach maths daily to groups of children (up to 9 in a group) and one to one sessions. I know the requirements of the maths curriculum for each year group and plan around these accordingly. I am able to differentiate to meet the needs of all the children that I work with. I tutor children in Year 2 and 6 in preparation for their SATs and have seen good progress made by all. I have had Numicon and Talking Maths training and have led training sessions for Teaching assistants in my school and other schools.
I am a very kind, caring and patient teacher who knows that some children lack confidence in maths and how that can make them feel. I like to make sure that the children I am working with feel a sense of achievement. I am a firm believer in giving praise to all effort in the maths lesson!
To start with I will do a short assessment with your child to enable me to see where your child needs support. If you already know this information then I am happy to plan sessions according to what is required. Each session I will bring along some maths aids to help your child visually understand what is being taught. I will also encourage your child to give reasons for answers to show their understanding.
I am passionate about teaching and look forward to working with your child to give them the maths skills they will need for life.

After leaving the first session, I couldn't get her into bed as she was too interested in making numbers. She was up at 5.30am at the table again the following morning practicing and in every spare moment since! We are so excited to see how this will progress and sincerely thank you for your help.
Jo & Alan
I look forward to continuing to build her confidence and ability in maths.
