I have worked in academia since 2001, in research, HE teaching and more recently in schools and colleges one-to-one with SEN students. I am educated to PhD level and my specialist subjects are sociology, geography and politics. I can also teach English. I come from a non-traditional academic background and I am well versed in the challenges which students face in learning environments from GCSE to higher education.
I worked for five years as a lecturer at the University of Exeter with undergraduate, masters and PhD students. I worked one-on-one and in a classroom. I am a member of the Higher Educational Academy and have teaching qualifications in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. In my last year at Exeter, I was nominated for a teaching award by the Exeter Students Union Guild.
I use a diversity of approaches to teaching and have a good understanding of uses of different methods and approaches to engaging students, different learning styles, and different needs and requirements
