I love working with children and still, after 30 years, get a thrill from helping my pupils gain understanding and reach their full potential. I enjoy music and am currently teaching recorder and ukulele. In my spare time I play in a fiddle group and enjoy getting out into the Scottish countryside.
Over my years of experience I have taught in every stage of the school, so I can quickly identify a pupil's level of ability. Most recently I have been in primary 5,6 and 7 so I am confident with the curriculum and have a wealth of suitable resources for this age group. I know how hard it is for some children to concentrate in a large class, and how much they can improve through one-to-one help.
When a pupil is spending an hour of their evening on school work, it is really important that it should be fun and productive. So my approach is to get to know my pupil, then quickly identify where I can be of the greatest help to benefit their learning. I am an experienced tutor and I use oral work, written tasks, games, and computer learning to keep the sessions busy and fun. If required, I will also set extra homework.
