Personal Description:

I am a Physics and Maths tutor with a passion for teaching students how the physical world and universe works and solving puzzles using science and mathematics.

As a student, I loved learning new techniques that would help better explain the world and help me solve new problems, completing A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. This led me to an undergraduate course in Physics at Imperial College London, one of the top courses in the world for this subject.

I believe that Maths should not be seen as a scary subject, but rather a hugely useful way of getting things done - from planning projects and events to building things with your hands - no matter what you want to do with life, a confident background in Maths helps you succeed. Furthermore, Physics is primarily a way of using Maths to explain the world and universe around us, and a strong foundation in this subject can help anyone, whether they want to become an engineer, astronaut, electrician or just have an inquisitive mind.

I live in Tunbridge Wells with my wife (who is also a tutor) and our two cats, Ozzie and Claire (who are not tutors).

Tutoring Experience:

• GCSE Maths tuition for older students seeking to retake exams as adults, supporting development of confidence and overcoming longstanding fears surrounding the subject.
• GCSE Physics tutor from home, using own basic equipment to support simple and effective demonstrations without needing a school laboratory.
• QTS Teacher Training Skills Test (Numeracy) support for prospective teachers, developing robust techniques needed for mental maths and deconstructing more complex problems into small parts.
• 100% success rate in students achieving their learning and examination goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about making my students feel confident in their learning and practice of Physics and Maths through building a unique and tailored approach for every student. Adapting my approach to the needs of each student is a key part of helping connect students to the concepts and techniques we build together, using real-life, relevant examples to help strengthen understanding and build confidence.

In addition to tailored learning, I teach my students how to use strong techniques and tools in approaching and tackling questions - demystifying seemingly complex tasks by using systematic processes that ensure students feel happy and confident in their ability to get the answers right.

I also work with my students to build a healthy and positive attitude to making mistakes - learning to see them as opportunities to further improve understanding and feeling safe in getting things wrong along the way.
