Hello! My name is Sasha and I am currently studying my first year of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Kent. I am an incredibly active and outgoing person and I love communicating with people! I pride myself in my patience and diligence as well as my determination to help people. I am currently working part time in a restaurant, but since I have been in the hospitality sector for 5 years I would really love to have a change by positively engaging with students on a personal level and providing them with a trusting, safe and communicative environment. Thank you very much for reading my bio and look forward to hearing from you soon!

Tutoring Experience

Whilst I was taking my A levels I used to work with my peers on translations of literature and would discuss further what the author could be inferring in those passages by closely referring to the text and the type of language they were using, additionally focusing on why they used those particular words in Latin and the kind of effect they could have on the reader. Furthermore, I have helped my younger sister with her homework, making sure that she understands what is being asked of her and how she can communicate that in the correct way without doing the work for her! Apart from that I have not had much experience but I would love to try tutoring because I think it would be very rewarding knowing that I can help someone overcome something which they have struggled with before.

Tutoring Approach

Although I may not have as much experience as others I would like to provide students with personalized learning, focusing specifically on their weaknesses as well as their strengths. I will be able to do this by meeting the student and working with them to establish what they struggle with and how we can tackle that together, whether that be through example, teaching, talking or engagement online. I can provide beginners Latin books, dictionaries and online resources to stimulate different parts of the brain. I also believe rewards for good work are just as important as teaching and students should be recognized when they have worked hard. I will be able to help students in every aspect of the Latin language; grammar, syntax, language structure, literature, morphology and vocabulary. By working on all of these parts individually and improving on whichever is the weakest, once combined together there should be no reason why a student can not master the Latin language. Additionally through my experience of learning the language it is possible to transfer these skills to Classical Civilisations as well as set texts and poetry. I would like to interact with students so that I can identify how they learn best to utilize those skills that they already have and enhance them to approach problems systematically in the way they learn best.
