I've recently graduated from the university of Sheffield with a BA in History and Hispanic Studies. I'm hoping to be able to continue a career based in Spanish as I really love the language and the culture that goes along with it.
Throughout the course of my studies I spent a year living and working in Asturias, Spain as a language assistant. I was very lucky and got the opportunity to work in both a primary and secondary school and really enjoyed the experience of teaching them. I also spent time giving private English tutoring to families living in the surrounding area. I spent the last 3 months living as an au pair with a family just outside Madrid where I also gave private classes and built on my own knowledge of Spanish. Throughout the past year I have been living and working as an EFL assistant in a primary school in Madrid, Spain.
With learning a language I feel that it's really important for the student to be able to gain confidence in the speaking aspect, as this can often be the most difficult. I think that it is necessary for the student to understand the progress that they're making and help them develop in the specific areas which they may find more difficult. This changes depending on the student as every person has an aspect they find easier or more difficult. For this reason I understand that some students need to spend more time focusing on grammar whereas others need to practice their fluidity etc. The most important thing however, is to make them as comfortable as possible with the language and so to use the target language as often as possible to create a positive learning environment.
