Mayfair Tutor

Hi my name is Sarah, I am an Educational Consultant and Tutor KS1 - KS2 level and both the Primary & Junior Maths Challenges. I have intensive experience of the independent/grammar school sector from 4+, 7+ , 8+, 9+, 10+, 11+ and 13+ pre-test levels of entry.

I trained to be an accountant, qualifying at 25 and have worked for a variety of large international organisations. My top 5% leadership training whilst working at KPMG, combined with my having a child and entering the competitive London school place arena, led to my researching the best methods that would lead to her finding the school competitive environment less stressful, and ensure it was easier for her to learn and retain that knowledge on a long term basis.

I work both with children and parents, to help implement good learning habits, ideally on a daily basis.

I have undertaken the hard part of researching the books, online subscription programmes and the best ways for a child to learn, so that as a parent, you can use the best resources that fit your child's needs from the start.

I have created my own timetables programme. I built this, whilst working with my then 6 year old, for her 7+ entrance exams to 4 top London schools. In 3 months, at the age of 6.5 years old, she knew all her timetables from 1 to 12, inside out and back to front. No singing, chanting, having to use her fingers to work out, just quick recollection. This has lead to her being able to grasp more complex mathematical concepts easily. I always ensure that we used little and often practice, to build up her long term memory retention. I'm also currently developing other educational digital programmes.

As a parent I know how daunting education/homework/music practice can be. I've seen how implementing regular daily practice of little and often, can help a child blossom academically and musically.

Holidays and weekends are the best time to keep on top or get ahead. I've seen my daughter cover a week's school work in 1-2hrs a day in the school holidays.

Tutoring Approach

I've had the idea of Lando (Little & Often) in my head for several years, having researched and then created the best and easiest methods to teach my own daughter, as she moved from being a toddler to starting school. Teaching her some of the more basic skills at a younger age than would be normal, purely because I could and to increase her confidence. I've seen her blossom in certain areas and dig her heels in others, and yes a 20min piece of work can take 2+ hours, you need a lot of patience!!

I rip apart the old ways of learning and look at simplifying, breaking down into bite sized chunks, then putting them back together, in a way that really works and can be easily applied, taking only 5-10 minutes a day. Little (5-10 minutes) and Often (ideally everyday or 4-6 times a week) to gradually build up and retain in a child's/adult's long term memory.

I've built up a Team of 9 Contributors (a KS2 Teacher/Head of Maths, a Musician/Composer, a Linguist/Opera Singer, a Screenwriter, a Children's Clothing Designer, an Artist, a potential future Children's Writer and Published Poet, an Pre Prep/Prep Educational Consultant and a Maths/Physics/Astronomy expert) who I hope will be able to follow their own dreams and aspirations via their input and the future successes of their own educational programmes, artwork and designs. Allowing them an additional forum to develop and build their own long term business' away from the Lando brand.

NB Following the suicide of my father Easter 2016, as a Living Legacy for him, 12.5% of all profit received through Lando Education will be used to help change families, children, individual's lives. This will be through musical instruments hire/purchase, music lessons, donating money to fund State School's libraries, or simply to make a difference to a life via a holiday/experience/bursary. I'm aiming to help towards funding a bursary in the memory of Alan Rickman at Latymer Upper School in London.
