Hi, my name is Sarah, I am a qualified Science and Mathematics teacher and have been teaching at KS3, GCSE and AS/A2 level in Birmingham schools for several years. In addition to this, I have been tutoring for the 11+ entrance exam for 10 years and have achieved excellent success rates with my students (over 85% in 2018). I have vast experience of private tuition in both groups and one to one and I am also an experienced exam marker for AQA. My work with AQA greatly enhances my teaching and tutoring as it enables me to expertly pinpoint where a student may lose marks in an exam and then coach them to not do so by focusing on exam technique.
My teaching and tutoring experience is vast and through the years I have helped hundreds of students achieve their academic targets. My work as a tutor has been extremely rewarding and my students have enjoyed huge amounts of success. In my work as an 11+ tutor, my success rate is excellent with the majority of my students gaining entry to the school of their choice. The students I have taught for GCSE and A level have all gone on to achieve their targets allowing them to gain entry to prestigious sixth forms and then on to excellent universities. Indeed, most of my A level students go on to top 20 universities with many gaining places to read medicine and a handful even gaining entry to Oxbridge (Oxford or Cambridge). The reviews I get from students and their parents are always extremely positive with most of my work coming from recommendations, in fact, many families will use my services to tutor more than one of their children which is a fantastic compliment.
I am a friendly and approachable tutor who is able to stretch and challenge students who need more advanced work to hit the highest grades but is also able to nurture students who may be less confident. For my 11+ tuition, I have carefully written my own 11+ scheme of work based on my vast experience of the CEM Grammar school admissions system practised in Birmingham. My course is completely comprehensive and includes a full set of revision notes which students are given each week to allow them to do extra work at home if they so wish. In addition to this, each of my students is given numerous questions based on whatever topic we are covering that week in order to consolidate learning and a set of homework questions which I will mark the next time I see them.
My key focus with any GCSE or A level student is exam technique as I usually find that this is where students struggle the most and unfortunately is an area which schools often do not have the time to cover. This is a method which has worked extremely well with previous students and is often identified by them as the most helpful and effective part of their revision.
Whether my student is sitting their 11+. GCSE or A level exams I find my method of focusing on the application of knowledge to past exam/test questions to be the most effective way of helping him/her to achieve their academic target(s) and has led to plenty of delighted students and parents.
