Personal Description:

I am a conscientious and experienced teacher who has gained great satisfaction from seeing children become more confident learners. I have worked as a One to One Tutor in middle schools and privately. I very much enjoy working with individual children. Before becoming a teacher I worked in offices and as a librarian. Although I have a Masters degree in Education, I struggled to become a fluent reader and speller at school, so I can identify with the difficulties some children experience with English and Maths.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a teacher for more than 20 years. I have taught classes from Year 1 to Year 6, and tutored KS1, KS2 & KS3 children individually in school or privately. My Y6 SATs booster tutees in school all made good or oustanding progress, as stated in my references. For the last 6 years I have worked solely as a Private Tutor. I am happy to tutor children who are keen to achieve above average, as well as those who are struggling. I am experienced in preparing KS1 and KS2 children for their Maths and English SATs. I have been an external marker for KS2 Maths SATs. I enjoy tutoring Maths and English.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to use a range of activities and approaches to tutoring depending on the individual tutee. I aim to provide variety to maintain motivation. I plan each tutorial carefully. If things are not going as well as expected I adapt the tutorial to make the activities more appropriate, or change my approach as I learn more about the tutees abilities, learning style and interests. A feeling of success is important to effective learning. I like to give children target stickers so they can see their achievements and reward stickers to reward effort. I have a love of learning myself and like to keep up to date with changes to the National Curriculum and new teaching ideas, as well as using tried and tested traditional methods.
