I am an engaging and enthusiastic teacher with excellent subject knowledge. I have been teaching for twelve years and enjoy helping students grasp concepts they find difficult. I have worked in additional roles in education and strongly believe that the education of young people should be holistic and student centred, focusing on what they ‘bring to the table’ and employing a variety of systems to enable them to make progress and maximise their life chances… Apart from my experience as an educator, my understanding and connection with young people draws from other sources. As a mother who has brought up seven children, with a prior career in a field of nursing, I am able to teach empathetically building confidence and self-esteem as well as key skills.
I have just resigned my position as Head of English at a good secondary school to concentrate on tutoring. I have been teaching English to secondary students for 12 years. I am also an associate examiner for Edexcel marking KS2 GPS SAT tests and English as a Second Language IGCSE, for Cambridge marking English Language IGCSE, and for AQA marking the new 9-1 English Language paper. I was appointed Senior Leader in Education for the Poole district by Sigma Teaching School in 2016, to coach other middle leaders. My career has covered multiple aspects of teaching and learning, pastoral care and intervention
I enjoy teaching and have a 'student-centred' approach which focuses on developing confidence and independence. I believe that children need to learn skills in English. Understanding how language works means that passing exams will come naturally. I believe that learning is collaborative process and that a student and teacher work together to tackle areas of weakness. Whilst I believe in a good work ethic, I also like my lessons to be relaxed and as enjoyable as possible.
